This issue was noticed due to the issue in https://www.excelforum.com/excel-pro...ml#post4712097
The behavior I see is (and this is a new issue):
1) If I open any Excel workbook, when I close it, Excel closes.
2) If I open an Excel workbook and then install an add-in, when I close my workbook, Excel closes.
3) If I then open my Excel workbook with add-in installed, I have two instances of Excel, one my workbook, the other a blank Excel screen. When I close my workbook, the other Excel screen stays open. If I instead try to close the blank screen, my workbook closes and the blank screen stays open.
This appears to be consistent no matter which AddIn I use.
Based on internet advice I thought my PERSONAL might be at fault, so exported all my modules, deleted my PERSONAL, recreated it, and imported my modules. This didn't change Excel's behavior.
I'm at a loss as to the cause or the cure for this behavior.
